Pellets are a standardized biofuel made from sawdust and planer shavings generated by the wood-processing industry. Through drying and compression, the raw material is transformed into a compact fuel that is easy to store and transport. The consistent fuel properties of pellets provide predictable conditions for combustion and energy production.
SCA in collaboration with Moelven Pellets AB
Moelven and SCA have a collaboration agreement, where SCA is responsible for the marketing and delivery of the pellets produced by Moelven in Sokna and Karlskoga. Deliveries of at least 40 tons per occasion are offered to companies, industries, and larger consumers.
We have chosen to focus on our manufacturing process and have partnered with SCA for sales. This way, we ensure distribution through a strong and knowledgeable player who has a strong position in the market.
Secure energy supply starts close to the source
In Valåsen, Karlskoga, and Sokna, Moelven produces pellets in direct connection with its sawmills, minimizing transportation and maximizing resource efficiency. By-products from the wood industry are transformed into valuable bioenergy through an integrated production process.
Using locally produced bioenergy such as pellets helps businesses reduce their dependence on imported energy and volatile global commodity markets.
Valåsen
Moelven’s pellet plant in Valåsen, Karlskoga, is fully integrated with the Valåsen sawmill and commenced operations in autumn 2024. The raw material consists of sawdust and other by-products from the company’s sawmilling operations in Värmland, creating an efficient and resource-effective production flow from sawmill to finished pellets.
The facility has a production capacity of 80,000 tonnes per year and offers ENplus-certified pellets. Bulk deliveries are available by vessel via Vänerhamn or by bulk truck directly from Valåsen.
Sokna
At Moelven Soknabruket AS in Sokna, Norway, the first pellet deliveries were made in 2020. The pellet plant is integrated with one of Norway’s largest sawmills, with approximately half of the raw material supplied directly from the Sokna sawmill. The remaining volume comes from other Moelven sawmills in the region. The plant has an annual production capacity of 80,000 tonnes, and bulk pellets can be delivered by vessel from Drammen or by bulk truck from Sokna.
