Danica Foods in Lycksele has been producing jam since 1994. What began as a berry cleaning facility in Rusksele has developed into one of Sweden’s largest jam factories. In recent years, the company has implemented several measures in its production, including switching from oil to pellets, which has reduced its use of fossil fuels.
Case Studies and Articles

Sustainable and reliable heating
When Nils and Lena built their house in Härnösand nearly 15 years ago, they wanted an environmentally friendly, energy-efficient home. A pellet stove became the heart of the house. Combined with solar collectors, rooftop solar panels, and a heat pump, they’ve created a sustainable, warm, and cozy home.

Biofuels: The key to sweden’s energy security
For decades, the transition to biofuels has been driven by economic and environmental factors. But in an increasingly uncertain world, the focus has shifted. Today, by-products from forestry and the sawmill industry play a key role in safeguarding the nation’s energy security.

From Tree to Decking and Energy
When trees are processed into wood products, we make use of as much of the raw material as possible. The by-products generated during sawing and processing are given a new life as renewable biofuels.

Sawdust becomes energy – fossil-free and efficient
Sawdust, a residual product from SCA’s sawmill, powers BEWI’s steam boiler. A fossil-free and efficient solution that provides both process heat and heating for the facilities. Read more about how BEWI harnesses energy, recycles waste, and produces insulation material made of 98% air.

Fire-damaged pellets still have energy value
In October, a fire at SCA’s pellet plant in Härnösand damaged large volumes of pellets. The material is now being repurposed to generate energy, heat, and electricity as sawdust.

Branches and tops by rail - double climate benefit
Since autumn 2024, slash chips have been delivered by train from SCA’s terminal in Töva outside Sundsvall to Eon’s combined heat and power plant in Örebro. When the transport is done by train instead of trucks, carbon dioxide emissions are reduced by 99%, and when slash replaces fossil energy, the climate impact is reduced.

Tomatoes grown with renewable pellet heating
At Ljustorps Tomater, pellets provide the energy that heats the soil, growing containers, and greenhouse air. Eva and Jorge produce around 14 tonnes of tomatoes each season: pesticide-free, carefully cultivated, and grown using heat generated from renewable wood pellets.

Bogrundet - from oil to pellets
At the Bogrundet tree nursery in Timrå, SCA grows around 95 million seedlings every year. An efficient technical solution now supplies 14 greenhouses with pellet-based heating, replacing 430 cubic metres of oil annually.
